About

The Ant Chromosome dataBase (ACdB) is a unifying open resource for ant chromosome counts, karyotype information and references.

There are different sources for ant systematics and morphological information. Here, our aim was to summarize the available cytogenetic diversity of Formicidae and compile the cytological information in an integrated database that will be updated regularly with the contributions of the scientific community.

All users are encouraged to contribute to the improvement and comprehensiveness of the cytogenetic information in the database. All users are also invited to submit new counts and karyotype information from published or unpublished data and also help us to identify possible erroneous counts.

To access the cytogenetic information in the ACdB, browse by Subfamily and Genus in the left pane of the main page.

How to cite

Cardoso et al. 2018. The Ant Chromosome Database (ACdb): an online resource for ant (Hyrmenoptera: Formicidae) chromosome researchers. Myrmecological News 27: 87-91.

The ACdB assembles all information previously compiled into published revisions.

In addition to the database citation recommended, we also suggest citing those major resources where the cytogenetic information was first reviewed and assembled, such as the last chromosome count review: Lorite, P and Palomeque T. 2010. Karyotype evolution in ants (Hymenoptera: Formicidae), with a review of the known ant chromosome numbers. Myrmecol News 13: 89-102.
